Raja Update 12/27

Dear Sandeep,

We hope all is well with you and your family, and that you are safe and healthy.

This week, Congressman Raja spoke to the Daily Herald about the bipartisan bill he co-sponsored to increase the digital security of all Americans and curb the negative impact of social media sites controlled by foreign adversaries. The Congressman told reporters, "Let's be clear about what this bill aims to do... This bill bars TikTok and other social media companies controlled by foreign adversaries from operating in the United States as long as their U.S. operations are owned, controlled or heavily influenced by those hostile regimes, such as the People's Republic of China -- countries that we know are looking for ways to use our own data against us."

The Congressman also joined WLS Radio to provide more detail about this potential danger. Congressman Raja told hosts, "Your listeners may be familiar with this, but Tik Tok is owned by a company called ByteDance, …and as a Chinese company it has to abide by two laws. One is that it has to provide user data on 140,000,000 Americans to the Chinese Communist Party upon request... Secondly, under an obscure Chinese law, every private company including ByteDance has to have a Chinese Communist Party cell embedded in the company helping direct policy."

Congressman Raja spoke to WGN Radio host Lisa Dent about the final report from the January 6th Congressional Committee. When asked about the committee's report, Raja explained the criminal referrals being made to the Justice Department.  The Congressman also explained that It was a "very serious report, as you know, with extremely serious findings with regard to Donald Trump."

We will continue to bring you news about Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's work in D.C. and Illinois.
