For the first time in nearly a decade, I won't be on the ballot this November.
I'll be honest — that's a strange thing to sit with. For years, asking for your vote has been how I showed up in this fight. This year, that's not an option for me.
But here's what hasn't changed: I am not going anywhere.
I started Equal Opportunity Now because I refuse to sit on the sidelines while Donald Trump and his MAGA allies try to dismantle everything that made my family's story possible. Not being on the ballot doesn't change that belief. If anything, it's freed me up to do something I care about just as much: help elect the next generation of Democrats who will fight for working families and take back power from MAGA extremists.
That's not just a talking point. This month alone, Equal Opportunity Now is putting $100,000 directly into the hands of Democratic candidates and causes — in Illinois and around the country. We're doing it because I know firsthand what it takes to run a campaign, and I know how much difference an early, real investment can make for a candidate who's ready to fight but needs the resources to do it.
I've spent my career fighting for fair wages, for a democracy that works for everyone, for an economy where hard work still leads somewhere. I'm not done fighting for any of that just because my name isn't on a ballot this year. If anything, I'm just getting started in a new way — finding the leaders who will carry this fight forward, and making sure they have what they need to win.
