Raja Update 1/24

Dear Sandeep,

We hope all is well with you and your family, and that you are safe and healthy.

Over the weekend, Congressman Raja joined Lindsey Reiser on MSNBC to call out House Republicans' plans to undermine programs like Social Security and Medicare. The Congressman told Lindsey, "I think this is extremely unpopular with not only the American people but their own constituents. These are vital payments that people rely on every day, and just recently a poll was conducted in which 50% of Republicans do not want to see cuts to Social Security or Medicare in exchange for raising the debt limit. That's how unpopular these moves would be."

In addition, Congressman Raja joined Victor Blackwell on CNN to discuss the importance of raising the debt ceiling as well as the discovery of classified documents in President Biden's Delaware home. Congressman Raja warned Victor, "If we don't raise the debt ceiling, we'll go into default, and only one default is enough to nuke the economy." Referring to the presence of classified documents in the President's home, the Congressman told Victor, "The bigger issue that we're seeing over and over again is how do we prevent this from happening again? I think that right now is the time to figure that out because we see that it has happened on multiple occasions with different administrations."

Congressman Raja also recently secured a $2 million grant to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dundee Township to go towards their new Woodlands Impact Center. The funding will provide vital services directed at under-served middle and high school students in their daily afterschool and summer programs. CEO Drew Glassford said, "Our new Woodlands Impact Center will engage approximately 300 youth in our community not currently served by our mentoring and career pathway programs. We are so grateful to Congressman Krishnamoorthi for helping us engage young people in our community in discovering new opportunities that will enable them to thrive in good-paying, skills-based jobs."

We will continue to bring you news about Raja's work in D.C. and Illinois.
